LIVE MUSIC: No Straight Lines — Anthony Pirog, Cristian Perez, & Friends

Five DC-area musicians, all from different worlds, come together for a night of guitar, little of which will have straight lines.

ANTHONY PIROG + KIYAN SAIFI

Washington, D.C.'s jazz and experimental music scenes wouldn't be quite where they are today without Anthony Pirog. The guitarist, composer, and loops magician is a quiet but ubiquitous force on stages around his hometown. With fearsome chops and a keen ear for odd beauty, Pirog has helped expand the possibilities of jazz, rock and experimentalism in a town long known for its straight-ahead tradition. Tonight he performs with Kiyan Saifi, an exciting young guitarist and composer who also writes for and plays in the DC band Red Sunflower.

CRISTIAN PEREZ

Argentine-American seven-string guitarist, composer, and arranger Cristian Perez has performed on four continents and is very active on the D.C.-area scene, where he also leads the Guitar Renegades ensemble. His debut album, Anima Mundi, reached #13 on the CMJ World Music chart, and his work with Project Locrea earned two Wammie Awards in 2022. He is a former Strathmore Artist in Residence.

WILLIAM SHELTON + JON KURTZ

Guitarist and composer William Shelton and percussionist Jon Kurtz debut Ascension, a composition for guitar and percussion in three movements of structured improvisation.
