Create a beautiful, heirloom-quality end-grain butcher block cutting board in this hands-on woodworking class. Students will choose from premium hardwoods—walnut, cherry, or maple—to craft a durable and functional board that will look great in any kitchen.
This class is divided into two sessions. During the first session, students will cut their lumber to size and complete the initial glue-up. This portion of the class takes approximately 1–2 hours.
The second session which will take place on the following Sunday (11am – 3pm) focuses on transforming the glued blank into a finished cutting board. Students will plane and crosscut their work pieces before completing the final glue-up. After a one-hour break to allow the glue to cure, the class will reconvene to plane, sand, and apply a food-safe finish to the completed board. Including the break, the second session lasts approximately 3–4 hours.
By the end of the course, each student will leave with a handcrafted end-grain butcher block cutting board and the skills and techniques needed to continue woodworking projects at home.
The finished board will be approximately be 18” x 12” x 1-1/2”
Skill Level: Beginner to intermediate
