Have you ever had the dream to dance like a professional dancer? Dance Canvas invites movers of all ages to experience our FREE Artist-to-Artist choreography workshops in The Backyard. Dance Canvas' goal is to introduce the Atlanta community to the world of professional dance! Each month, Dance Canvas will make you move with exciting, innovative choreography in all styles of dance...from Contemporary, to Hip Hop, to Ballet and much more. Don't miss your chance to dance the night away!

Improvisation through Movement

Wednesday, October 21st (6:15 - 7:15pm)

Join choreographer Graham Shelor for an open-level movement workshop focused on spontaneous and collaborative dance-making. Through guided movement activities, participants will discover new ways to move their bodies and develop a deeper awareness of how they feel and move. Then, using principals of choreography, we will turn individual movement into dynamic ensemble dances in real time. Designed for all bodies, movers, and experience levels.

Modern Dance Masterclass w/ Lonnie Davis

Wednesday, October 21st (7:30 - 8:30pm)

As always, our crowd favorite Modern class returns to The Home Depot Backyard!

Distinguished teacher and choreographer, Lonnie Davis, is known for challenging dancers to build strength, flexibility and artistry in his Horton based Modern Masterclass. Lonnie, will give participants a chance to experience his signature choreography. Come out and dance with us!

Lonnie E. Davis Jr. is a sought after teacher, choreographer and Department Chair of the dance conservatory at the new School of the arts (SotA) at Central Gwinnett HS. He has taught modern, jazz and contemporary master classes nationally and internationally, most recently being invited to teach and choreograph at the English National Ballet School and Ateneo Danza in Bologna, Italy. He has been on faculty DeKalb School of the Arts, Cobb County Center for Excellence in Performing Arts at Pebblebrook HS and Southeast Regional Ballet Associations Regional Dance America Festival. As a performer he has worked with Dayton Contemporary Dance Co., Giordano Dance Chicago, Wylliams/Henry Contemporary Dance Company and Royal Caribbean Productions to name a few.

FAQs:

What should I wear to class?

We suggest wearing athletic clothing that is "breathable" and allows you to move. For both the Contemporary and Hip Hop classes, sneakers or dance shoes would be appropriate (*no flip flops or sandals)

Do I need dance experience to take class?

All are welcome! Our teachers will give options for dancers of all levels! Our classes are designed to give people a chance to learn professional choreography from Artists and Dance Companies in a fun environment.

Are children allowed?

While we love little ones, and our classes are open to all, our teachers will be teaching to adults. Children under 16 years old should attend class with a guardian. The classes are probably not appropriate for children under 10 years old, unless the participant has dance experience.

FREE Parking is available in the Mercedes-Benz Lot across from Gate 1 on the corner of Northside Dr. and Magnolia St. NW on a first-come, first-serve basis. Additional parking will be available on an hourly basis in the Orange Deck.

Rideshare: Guests are encouraged to arrive at the Vine City MARTA Station and use the crosswalk or pedestrian bridge to walk across Northside Drive to Gate 1.

MARTA: The preferred station for arrival and departure is the Vine City Station. This station will drop you off just across the street from Gate 1 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Use the crosswalk or pedestrian bridge at Northside Drive
