Owl Prowl at Bear Swamp Park

Join us for an evening Owl Prowl at Bear Swamp Park & Archery Complex!

We’ll meet at 4:45 PM, just before sunset, for a quick welcome and introduction before listening for the Barred Owls that call Bear Swamp home. We may hear them calling on their own, or use recorded calls to encourage a response. Eastern Screech Owls and Great Horned Owls are also possible.

This is more of a listen-and-learn event than a hike. We’ll be standing outdoors and listening for owl calls rather than walking through the woods at night. While we may get lucky, the chances of actually seeing an owl are slim, so come ready to enjoy the experience of hearing them in their habitat.

After our time at Bear Swamp, attendees will have the option to drive a few miles to a nearby private farm, where we’ll listen for Eastern Screech Owls and Great Horned Owls in another promising habitat. We’ll wrap up with a casual hangout in the farm’s new barn, and you’re welcome to bring refreshments.

A few things to know:

• Dress warmly and for the weather.
• Flashlights are welcome, but not required.
• The event will involve quite a bit of standing outdoors.
• Please allow plenty of travel time to reach Bear Swamp Park.
• Space is limited.
