Mimosas & Malpractice: Preparing Nurses & Providers is an engaging, real-world educational experience designed to pull back the curtain on medical malpractice litigation and help healthcare professionals understand how their clinical decisions, communication, and documentation are examined when a case goes to court. Led by Shannon Coillot, RN, CLNC, an emergency and flight nurse with experience in trauma resuscitation and four years of legal nurse consulting, the course draws on her review of more than 1,800 medical malpractice cases and experience serving as an expert RN in over 30 cases. Participants will explore real case reviews, learn what plaintiff attorneys look for in medical records, distinguish objective charting from defensive charting, and understand the importance of following facility policies and procedures. The goal is to empower nurses and providers with practical knowledge to strengthen their documentation so that, if their care is ever questioned in litigation, the medical record objectively tells the story of the patient care provided.
