A Community Evening on Reparations

Please join the Berkeley Reparations Coalition and Classroom Matters for a community evening of conversation and connection! Talk about past and current reparations efforts at the local, state, and national levels and discuss the coalition's development of a ballot measure to fund educational opportunity grants. Pizza and beverages will be provided.

Please consider donating here to the Berkeley Reparations Coalition to support coalition-building and future educational events.

A bit about the Berkeley Reparations Coalition:

The Berkeley Reparations Coalition is a community coalition of political, civic, and faith leaders that formed after the murder of George Floyd to advance reparations for students in BUSD who are descendants of chattel slavery. At our coalition's request, BUSD established a formal Reparations Task Force — made up of students, parents, staff, and community members — which presented final recommendations, including educational opportunity grants for Descendant students, a harm report documenting BUSD's historical role in perpetuating racial inequity, and new curriculum on the legacy of chattel slavery. We continue to advocate for full implementation of all three.
