About This Event

Working Loose welcomes New York songwriter Eliza Edens to Blue Hill, with Dead Gowns and Louisa Stancioff opening the night.

Eliza Edens —

Eliza Edens’ new album, Death Drive, comes out October 30, 2026. The record grew out of a complicated period in Edens’ life: grieving the loss of their mother to dementia while also coming into a new understanding of their queerness. Rather than treating those experiences as separate, the songs let grief, desire, humor, pleasure, and uncertainty exist alongside one another.

Death Drive follows Edens’ earlier work into a more immediate and expansive sound. Many of the songs began as part of song-a-day writing exercises, and that sense of instinct carries through the record — direct lyrics, concise structures, electric guitars, drums, layered vocals, keys, saxophone, electronic percussion, and, somewhat unexpectedly, bongos throughout.

The album’s title comes from Freud’s idea of the “death drive,” but Edens is ultimately interested in its opposite as well: the impulse to seek out experience, connection, and pleasure as a way of feeling more alive.

The result is an album that can be funny and strange alongside its heavier themes, moving between songs about family and memory, sex and desire, new love, nightlife, and the places we come from. It’s a record about grief, but also about what happens after grief begins to change shape.

Dead Gowns

Maine-based Dead Gowns, the project of Geneviève Beaudoin, brings a distinctive blend of folk, indie rock, and expansive songwriting to the bill. Beaudoin's work is intimate and carefully observed, with a strong sense of place and an ear for arrangements that allow the songs to breathe.

Louisa Stancioff

Louisa Stancioff is a Maine songwriter whose music moves between folk, indie, and rock, with a focus on close-up, personal storytelling. Her songs have a conversational quality that makes the details feel intimate and immediate.
