Bobbito García has made an undeniable mark on global popular culture: As one-half of the “Stretch and Bobbito” radio show, Bob introduced the world to then-unknown superstars like Jay-Z, NaS, Wu Tang, Eminem, Big L, Wyclef Jean, and Lauryn Hill. In 1998, the Source Magazine voted Stretch and Bobbito as “The Best Hip Hop Radio Show of All Time,“ and in 2023, they were inducted into the NAB Radio Hall of Fame. An NYC-native and world-renowned DJ, Bob has spun world, soul and jazz music at legendary venues like Lincoln Center, Central Park SummerStage, and the Smithsonian in D.C.

At a time when much of the world has been forced to ignore the ongoing pandemic, Bobbito Garcia has taken a different approach: Speaking plainly about the risk, our collective responsibility to mask and vaccinate, and the people still being left behind.

His recent appearance on national televisionwhere he acknowledged that the pandemic is not over sparked an outpouring of gratitude from immunocompromised, disabled, and Covid-Realist communities online. This mask-required event extends that ethos into a physical space where folks can gather around good music without being asked to ignore reality.
