Gallery 263 is pleased to present At What Cost, a national exhibition juried by Andy Chan, featuring work from four zine makers across disciplines of design, technology, education, and fine arts. Together they celebrate the medium of zines and highlight the unseen labor, resources, and methods of productions that go into producing these small but mighty handheld works.
Andy Chan, whose background in business consulting and founder of The Sipping Room, a creative platform, artspace, and cafe located in Fenway, brings together two different but intrinsically related realities of art making: love for creative expression and cost of production.
The artists in this intimate exhibition share the behind the scenes of their process, their unexpected challenges, and the reality of time, distance, and money that go into their zines in order to share their stories with the world.
At What Cost urges us to consider the endurance through waking nights with a half baked idea, traveling back and forth to the only risoprinter in the city, working through hundreds of sketches and test prints, all to create an idea to hold in your hand.
This event is open to the public and free to attend. Light refreshments will be served.
