Westside ReLEAF

ReLEAF WESTSIDE: Saturday Dec 5th

100 Trees. One Day. One Neighborhood.

Sign-Up TODAY we will need to assign teams and have limited spaces for tree planting (100 - 120 People). Other volunteers will still be INTEGRAL in complementary efforts!

Westside is honored to be the first neighborhood to launch ReLEAF, Charleston’s community-led tree planting pilot.

This is the first time City of Charleston residents have led a tree planting initiative from the ground up. It won’t be perfect, it’s a pilot! But we’re going to make a huge impact and have a lot of fun doing it.

HOW THE DAY WORKS

Westside will be divided into 10 color-coded zones, with one team assigned to each section.

Each Zone Team

• 9 Tree Planters, divided into 3 crews of 3 with ~3 trees each
• 1 Tree Captain to keep everything moving (If you would like to be a captain please email sarah.nicole.spangler@gmail.com training is October 7 at 5pm and Oct 10 at 6pm).
• 1 Tree Expert for tough calls, roots, placement questions, and evaluations
• Additional volunteers for our full-court press on each zone

This is much more than planting trees. Additional volunteers in each zone will:

• Backfill divots and eroded verges with excess soil
• Clear/ weed whack sidewalk and verge overgrowth
• Clear mud and debris from drains
• Event logistics
• Support planting crews (shuttling water, watering devices, spreading mulch)
• Join Keep Charleston Beautiful for litter cleanup

The goal: leave every zone better than we found it.
