Always wanted to learn to sew? This is your start.
Intro to Sewing is a four-class beginner series. Each Saturday runs three relaxed hours, and you leave every single class with something you made yourself. No experience needed. We guide you through every step, one stitch at a time.
What you’ll make:
- Class 1 — Your choice of a fabric lanyard or a tote bag with reinforced straps
- Class 2 — Your choice of a circle skirt or pull-on shorts with an elastic waist
- Class 3 — Your choice of a bucket hat or a reversible fabric basket
- Class 4 — A zippered pouch: pencil case or travel pouch
Pricing:
- Single class: $95
- All four classes: $340 — save $40 when you register for the full series
- Machine rental: $25 for one class, or $75 flat for the full series. Bringing your own machine? No rental fee.
What you’ll learn:
- The main parts of a sewing machine and how to thread it
- How to sew a straight line and keep an even seam
- How to lock your stitches so they don’t come apart
- How to press, turn, and topstitch for a clean finish
- How to fix the most common beginner problems (tangled thread, bunched fabric)
Sewing with a purpose:
Much of the fabric in our studio comes from donated clothing and leftover textiles. The piece you make gives that material a second life — and gives you a skill you can use for years.
Included:
- All fabric, thread, and hardware
- Tools: scissors, pins, seam ripper, iron and pressing station
- A take-home handout with key terms, fixes for common mistakes, and free learning sites
Good to know:
- Classes run Saturdays, 1–4 pm. Please arrive 10 minutes early to settle in.
- Fall Series: October 24, 31, November 7 and 14.
- Classes build on each other, so taking all four is the best way to learn — but you’re welcome to take just one. You must test into any class after the first session.
