Film-Reel Therapy: A Mental Health Movie Processing Group
Film Reel is a movie screening and discussion group aimed at building connections and using movies to help us process the world today. We see movies as an entry point to fostering community and mental health growth. This is more than just a movie screening, it’s a place for gathering in a world where third places seem to be disappearing. Come join us for a unique and engaging experience at For Real Therapy, hosted by licensed therapist, Daniel Westheimer. This movie group offers a space to explore the world through film.
Join us before the film to make new movie friends and bond over your love of movies, then watch the film together in FRT’s beautiful atrium After the screening, the groups facilitator hosts a discussion where we explore the films themes together. Film Reel aims to help you get a deeper understanding of the film and the world around us, while also providing a space to foster friendship.
Movie Themes: Obsession is the most popular horror film of the year, and it also one of the films most worthy of an in-depth discussion through a mental health lens. Obsession is a film that explores autonomy, desire and codependency, taking the topes of the classic romantic comedy and highlighting their insidious nature. This film has been discussed ad nauseam in online spaces- it’s time to have these discussions in person.
Art of Being: The Immutable & Fiction (Dance/Movement Workshop) Mondays, October 19, 26, November 2, 9, 16, 23, 12:30-2:30 pm CST In-Person @ Chicago Danztheatre
