Join us for a conversation between EXILE Projects founder Amanda Keeley and photographer Josh Aronson, whose Photo Book Speed Date inspired Miami Reads. Together, they’ll discuss the origins of the project, the process of bringing it to Miami, and how a simple invitation to share a meaningful book became a way for community members to connect through photography, conversation, and print.
The conversation will also explore how the experience shaped Aronson as an artist and how the fleeting exchanges of the event evolved into a collective portrait of Miami and its readers.
🎟 This event is FREE and open to the public! An RSVP grants general entry, but seating is not guaranteed, so please try to show up early. Please RSVP only if you intend to join us.
Miami Reads documents Photo Book Speed Date, a public gathering presented by EXILE Projects at the Miami-Dade Public Library’s Main Library on March 7, 2026. Participants were invited to bring an art or photography book from their personal collection and were photographed holding the book they chose to share.
Inspired by a format developed by photographer Josh Aronson, the project uses books as a catalyst for conversation and connection. The resulting publication brings these portraits together as a collective picture of Miami through its readers and the books they keep close. Each selection offers a glimpse into the person holding it, reflecting taste, curiosity, memory, influence, or simply an enduring attachment to a particular book.
EXILE Projects, founded in 2014, is a Miami-based nonprofit press that champions experimental artists’ publications and nurtures a vibrant print-culture community. Through workshops, talks, exhibitions, and fairs, the organization expands access to independent publishing while celebrating diverse creative voices.
