Magic Carpet Kids Club: Read, Imagine & Explore

Climb aboard the Magic Carpet Kids Club, where every book takes children on a new adventure!

In continued celebration of National Literacy Month, the East Orange Family Success Center is offering eight interactive, biweekly reading sessions designed to help children explore books, discover new stories, express their creativity, and develop a lifelong love of reading.

Literacy matters deeply in our community. Nearly 15,700 East Orange residents are children, and 23% of residents age five and older speak a language other than English at home. Welcoming, family-centered reading experiences can help children strengthen vocabulary, comprehension, communication, confidence, and their connection with others.

Each Magic Carpet Kids Club session combines:

• Story Time: Enjoy exciting, age-appropriate stories together.

• Structured Play: Bring favorite characters and stories to life through guided play with other participants.

• Creative Book Activities: Make drawings, crafts, and projects inspired by the featured story.

• Snack Creation: Prepare a simple, book-inspired snack during select sessions.

Why join the adventure?

• Help make reading an enjoyable habit
• Strengthen vocabulary, comprehension, and fluency
• Encourage children to discuss and share their ideas
• Inspire creativity through play and hands-on activities
• Give children opportunities to make new friends
