Join us for an interactive session to develop solutions for increasing climate resiliency and reducing greenhouse gas emissions in the City of Edgewood. The workshop runs from 10am to 3pm - coffee and lunch will be provided!
The City of Edgewood is taking an important first step toward a more climate-resilient future. In response to Washington State House Bill 1181, passed in May 2023, the City has launched a climate planning process to develop a Climate Element as part of its 2029 Comprehensive Plan update. HB 1181 requires cities and counties planning under the Growth Management Act to integrate climate change into long-range planning — both to reduce climate pollution and to better prepare communities for the impacts of a changing climate.
The City has assessed future climate projections, completed a greenhouse gas inventory, and conducted a climate vulnerability assessment. These assessments will inform the Climate Element's goals and policies. More information on the project can be found on the City's Climate Planning webpage.
Note: Participants must be able to join for the full session.
Join us in the creation of the City’s Climate Element and help develop next steps for implementing climate-related goals and policies. The idea is to work with local experts, City officials, and members of the community to create climate solutions that work best for Edgewood.
What to expect during this session:
Presentations on regional climate work already in progress
Understanding key climate risks and sources of greenhouse gas emissions
Time to discuss and design policy solutions that work for Edgewood
Policy areas may include:
