About This Event

ND Social Work CEU approved- 4 General, and 2 Ethics

This interactive session explores poverty through the Bridges Out of Poverty framework, helping participants understand the experiences, resources, relationships, and environments that influence economic stability. Participants will examine their own assumptions about poverty, explore the differences in mental models and hidden rules across economic classes, and learn how language, relationships, and social capital can either create barriers or open pathways to change.

During the day, participants will:

  • Explore the Bridges Model and its application to individuals, organizations, and communities
  • Examine the resources people use to survive, create stability, and solve problems
  • Understand the causes and experiences of poverty
  • Explore the mental models and hidden rules of poverty, middle class, and wealth
  • Learn how language and story structure influence communication and relationships
  • Examine the role of family, support systems, and social capital
  • Explore bonding, bridging, and disposable relationships
  • Connect the Bridges concepts to a theory of change and practical application
  • Consider how professionals and communities can help create pathways toward greater stability

Who should attend?
This workshop is ideal for professionals and community members who work with, serve, hire, educate, house, or support people experiencing poverty—including social-service professionals, educators, employers, healthcare providers, housing professionals, nonprofit and faith-based organizations, government agencies, financial institutions, and community leaders.
