A Youth Sports Conversation: THE BIGGER PICTURE

A Youth Sports Conversation: THE BIGGER PICTURE

Different sports. Shared challenges. One community.

South Florida is full of talented young athletes and adults who care deeply about their futures.

But too often, our sports communities operate in separate circles, even when we’re navigating many of the same questions.

Today’s track athlete could be tomorrow’s soccer star. Today’s recreational tennis player could be tomorrow’s D1 basketball player. Our kids’ possibilities cross sports. Our conversations should, too.

Hosted by Aygemang Clay and featuring five-time state champion Coach Cilk McSweeney, The Bigger Picture brings parents, coaches, trainers, and young athletes together for an honest, supportive conversation about youth sports culture in South Florida.

We’ll explore questions many families and coaches carry:

Are we on the right path—and how do we know?

What comes next when a child outgrows recreational play, but year-round specialization doesn’t feel right?

Are we doing too much, too soon?

How do we recognize a healthy and toxic sports environment?

How do we measure progress beyond awards and trophies?

How can busy families make room for competition, development, rest, and joy?

Expect shared experiences, thoughtful questions, and perspectives from across sports. Bring what you’ve learned, what you’re wrestling with, and a willingness to listen. Young athletes are welcome, and their perspectives matter, too.

The goal is to leave with stronger connections, useful ideas, and more confidence in supporting the young people in our lives.
