Coffee & Companions is about taking time to connect with animals and one another in person. Science tells us that interacting with animals is good for our health – it decreases stress hormones, lowers blood pressure, and reduces feelings of loneliness.
On top of that, we know kind, patient interaction is good for the animals in our care. Spending time with people provides shelter animals with necessary socialization and a sense of calm in what can otherwise be a stressful environment.
At Coffee & Companions, adults ages 55+ can expect to connect with other animal lovers, tour our adoption floor, pet and play with animals, and learn a bit about Animal Humane Society and the ways we stay involved in our community!
Activities may include:
-holding, petting, and playing with animals
-writing up personality descriptions of the animals waiting for adoption
-reading to animals
-dog walking
-creating animal enrichment
