Skip the store-bought ornaments this year and make something your family will actually treasure. In this hands-on class, you'll turn a pair of custom wooden Christmas tree ornaments on the lathe using easy-to-learn carbide tools and Rockler ornament turning kits — and take them home ready to hang on the tree or give as gifts.

Choose Your Kit:

Each student picks two kits (same or different) from the following options:

🎄 Finial Tip Ornament Kit — A classic elongated ornament with a gold-plated finial point at the bottom, giving it that traditional icicle shape

🎄 Christmas Tree Ornament Kit — A rounder ornament profile topped with gold-plated hardware for a more classic ball-style look

🎄 Ceiling Fan Pull / Ornament Kit — A smaller turned piece with a pull chain attachment — works as a ceiling fan pull or a unique, compact tree ornament

The kits include the gold-plated hardware that caps off your ornament and gives it a polished, finished look. You supply the creativity on the lathe — shape the wood blank into whatever profile you like, and the hardware does the rest.

What You'll Learn:

• Lathe fundamentals — How to safely mount, spin, and shape a small blank on the lathe
• Using carbide tools — Beginner-friendly cutting tools that are easy to control and produce smooth results right away
• Shaping ornament profiles — Turning flowing curves, tapers, coves, and beads to create elegant ornament shapes
• Working small — Techniques for handling and shaping small-diameter pieces with control and precision
• Sanding, finishing, and assembly — Bringing your ornament to a smooth finish and pressing in the gold-plated hardware

What You'll Take Home:

Two finished, gold-accented wooden Christmas tree ornaments — ready to hang. Keep them both, give them as gifts, or hang one and gift the other. These are the kind of ornaments that get their story retold every year when the decorations come out.

No woodworking experience needed. Our instructors will guide you through every step.
