This isn't a flat cutout or a silhouette. In this class, you'll build a three-dimensional wooden reindeer sculpture using a bandsaw technique called compound cutting — and the finished piece looks like it was carved by hand.
Compound cutting is one of the bandsaw's best tricks. You cut a profile from one side of a solid block of wood, tape the scrap back on, rotate the block 90 degrees, and cut a second profile from the adjacent face. When the tape comes off, you're holding a fully three-dimensional shape — a standing reindeer with a head, body, legs, and antlers, all from a single piece of hardwood.
A freestanding 3D wooden reindeer sculpture, roughly 7-1/2" tall, cut from a single block of hardwood. Set it on a mantel, a shelf, or a holiday table — or make a whole herd. These make wonderful handmade holiday gifts and decorations that come out year after year.
No woodworking experience needed. Our instructors will guide you through every step.
