Make a Gnome Tree Ornament

Make a Gnome Tree Ornament

There's no place like gnome for the holidays. Join us at the lathe to turn your own gnome ornament, a small project with a lot of personality and a finished piece you'll want to hang front and center on the tree. This is a turning class. Some turning experience is necessary, since we'll move through the spindle work at a steady pace and you'll be handling the gouges and parting tools yourself.

What You'll Learn:

• Mounting and turning a spindle blank between centers
• Shaping the gnome's rounded body and tapered hat
• Using gouges and parting tools to define the beard and hat brim
• Sanding and applying a finish while the piece is still on the lathe

What You'll Take Home:

Your own finished gnome ornament, ready to hang. It makes a great handmade gift or a piece you'll bring out year after year.

Good to Know:

• All materials, tools, and equipment provided
• Some turning experience is necessary
• Students aged 14–17 require a parent or guardian present
