An IP address is often the critical starting point in linking online activity to a specific device and, ultimately, to an individual. Understanding how Internet Protocols function gives investigators the foundation needed to establish, interpret, and document a defensible digital footprint.

This course provides a structured framework for locating and tracing IP and MAC addresses that are central to identifying devices used in criminal activity. Participants will learn how IP data connects to physical devices, networks, and investigative leads.

This training delivers a clear, step-by-step process for properly tracing IP addresses during investigations. Students will apply investigative techniques and utilize practical tools to follow IP address data, develop timelines, and identify actionable case evidence.

The course is designed to strengthen both digital and traditional investigative skills, reinforcing how IP tracing integrates into broader case strategy and evidentiary development.
