About This Event

Come meet the Americans behind this French--and Francophile--program.

Featuring music by Claude Debussy
Charles Martin Loeffler, Gabriel Fauré, Cesar Franck and Nadia Boulanger.

About the Performers:

"A Romantic Firebrand." - The New York Times

Sergey Schepkin - piano

Mr. Schepkin has performed on many important stages worldwide, from America to Europe to Japan to New Zealand. He plays a wide range of solo, chamber, and concerto repertoire, and is an active recording artist.

He is a recipient of numerous prizes and awards, and is especially renowned for his performances and recordings of Bach, Beethoven, and the Romantics. He is also a sought-after teacher serving on the faculties of New England Conservatory in Boston and Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh.

Thomas Barth - cello

Praised for his “expansive and fervent” style (Musical America) and “superb phrasing” (Boston Musical Intelligencer), cellist Thomas Barth enjoys a varied career as a chamber and orchestral musician. He performs frequently with groups including the Handel and Haydn Society, Glissando Chamber Series, A Far Cry, Emmanuel Music, Skylark Vocal Ensemble, Boston Baroque, and ChamberQUEER. Thomas is both at home performing at leading arts venues–including Carnegie Hall and the Ravinia Festival in recent seasons–and passionate about bringing thoughtful musical programming to wide audiences through performances at schools, farms, and community centers throughout North America and Europe.

Emily Marvosh - contralto

American contralto Emily Marvosh has established a reputation as a singing actress with excellent musicianship, a “plum-wine voice,” and “graceful allure,” on national and international stages. Recent solo appearances include the Handel and Haydn Society, St. Thomas Fifth Avenue, Boston Symphony Orchestra, Rhode Island Philharmonic, Charlotte Symphony, Huntsville Symphony Orchestra, Tucson Symphony Orchestra, Mobile Symphony Orchestra; and John Davenant’s Macbeth with the Henry Purcell Society of Boston, as well as solo recitals in Arizona, Michigan, Maine and Massachusetts. Awards include the prestigious Adams Fellowship at the Carmel Bach Festival, the American Prize in the Oratorio and Art Song divisions, and second place in the New England Regional NATSAA competition.
