New Orleans Black Education History Week closes where it should — in a room, with the neighborhood, talking.
Join us Friday, November 20, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Merchant Hall for the last night of the Community Gallery and the last night of the observance. A conversation and audience Q&A with Black education scholars (panelists announced soon), a music selection, happy hour and light bites, and the door open to anyone who wants to walk in.
The Living Syllabus stays up until the lights go down. The Living Syllabus is BE NOLA's Black Is Brilliant Syllabus built at full scale — a timeline wall of this city's Black education history, five stations for the five pillars, and a reading room you can sit down in. Friday is the last chance to see it.
This is the closing of a full week. From November 15 to 20, students across New Orleans spend the week learning what this city built — and what they're standing in. It's the first year of a permanent, citywide commemoration adopted by the Orleans Parish School Board. See the full week at BIBWeek.com.
Free and open to the public. RSVP appreciated. Suggested donation of $15 supports the observance and helps get students to next year's programming.
