An evening exploring community care and fringe freedom w/ Libuše Jarcovjáková, Allen Frame, Petra Janda, and artist friends.
This evening brings together photographer Libuše Jarcovjáková and artist Petra Janda, both current residents at Residency Unlimited, through a shared interest in communities, care, and alternative ways of living together.
The program begins with a conversation between Jarcovjáková and NYC-based photographer, writer, and curator Allen Frame in the Czech Center Cinema, exploring her photographic practice, artistic journey, and the personal and social histories reflected in her work. The evening continues with Petra Janda’s performance Hungry Plants in the Bohemian National Hall Ballroom, followed by an informal rooftop reception with the artists, RU residents, and members of New York’s art community.
Based on Janda’s research into different types of plants and their feeding habits,Hungry Plantsreflects on care, caretaking, and belonging. While Jarcovjáková’s photographs document the intimate social worlds of Prague’s underground and queer communities during late socialism, Janda’s collaborative and ecological practice explores how relationships, mutual support, and collective action can shape contemporary artistic and social spaces.
Presented by Czech Center New York and Residency Unlimited in collaboration with the Jindřich Chalupecký Society**, with support from** Trust for Mutual Understanding and Materials for the Arts**. Part of the** Safer Spaces program.
