Woodland Storybook: An Enchanted Forest in a Book Workshop with Cindy Pagan

In this immersive book-art workshop, participants will transform a hardcover book into a three-dimensional enchanted woodland scene. Each book will be hand-carved in advance by the instructor, creating a layered forest opening through the cover and several pages.

From there, the story is yours to tell.

Participants will paint their books and build their own woodland scene using moss, leaves, mushrooms, tiny woodland creatures, flowers, twigs, acorns, stones, and other miniature embellishments. Add a winding path, a hidden cottage, a tiny door, a curious fox, or simply let the forest take over the pages.

No two storybooks will be alike. Participants will leave with a unique piece of handmade book art that can stand on a shelf, looking as though a little piece of an enchanted forest has escaped from the pages.

The structural carving will be completed by the instructor before class. This allows participants to focus on the creative and decorative aspects of the project.

The student supply fee for the project will be $15.00, and includes:

·  1 hardcover book per participant (pre-carved book cover and layered interior pages)

·  Scrap book pages for experimentation

·  Craft adhesive/glue

·  Mod Podge or similar book-art medium

·  Acrylic paints in assorted colors

·  Earth tones and woodland colors

·  Metallic/accent paints

·  White paint for highlights

·  Assorted paintbrushes

·  Preserved or faux moss

·  Faux leaves and foliage

·  Miniature mushrooms

·  Acorns and pinecones

·  Small twigs and branches

·  Bark pieces

·  Tiny woodland animals

·  Miniature birds

·  Miniature fences, bridges, doors, or other woodland structures
