The Sentinel Method, Behavior based observation and pre-incident indicators

The Sentinel Method™: Recognizing Anomalies Before They Become Crises

Hosted by the San Bernardino Police Department

Every shift begins with a decision.

The Sentinel Method™ is a practical, behavior-based training program that teaches law enforcement professionals how to recognize meaningful anomalies, establish behavioral baselines, and make confident, objective decisions under pressure.

Rather than relying on assumptions or intuition alone, this course provides a structured framework for identifying observable behaviors and environmental cues that support sound tactical decisions, improve officer safety, and strengthen legal articulation.

Participants will learn how to:

• Establish behavioral and environmental baselines

• Recognize meaningful anomalies that warrant further attention

• Apply objective, bias-resistant decision-making techniques

• Develop articulable reasonable suspicion based on observable facts

• Improve report writing and courtroom testimony

• Enhance situational awareness while reducing unnecessary enforcement actions

Using real-world case studies, interactive discussions, and practical exercises, attendees will leave with immediately applicable tools they can use on their very next shift.

Who Should Attend

• Patrol Officers
• Field Training Officers
• Detectives
• Supervisors
• Specialized Enforcement Units

Whether you’re a new officer or a seasoned veteran, the Sentinel Method™ provides a practical framework for recognizing what others overlook and making better decisions when it matters most.
