Grand opening of The Undergound Somerville: Gallery and Creative Space in the heart of Davis Square!
Night of the Living Dead is the 1978 horror classic that gave birth to the modern zombie film (or, you know. Raised it from the grave). Flesh-eating ghouls? Contagious bites? This is where it all started.
Night of the Living Dead was the first major US horror film to star a Black actor (Duane Jones). Director George A. Romero chose Jones as the best actor from a diverse group who auditioned for the "race neutral" role of Ben (male lead). It was only in retrospect that he acknowledged how Ben's racial dynamic with the other characters added dimension to the film's lauded element of social critique.
Considered one of the greatest movies of all time, Night of the Living Dead stalks countless lists of best/scariest/most insightful horror films, and enjoys a 95% rotten tomatoes score.
at The Underground, the all-new live musical score will be performed by the multi-instrumentalist duo behind hit podcast Blood on Gold Mountain and the LA Hungry Ghost Festival. Expect dark electronics, haunting vocals, ominous guitars and of course the obligatory organ.
Each screening will include a reception, featuring small bites and thematic beverages. All refreshemnts will be clearly labeled regarding dietary restrictions, etc.
Night of the Living Dead is in the PUBLIC DOMAIN in the United States. This enables us to offer this live-score event at The Underground.
