The Colorado 4-Hour Specified Semiautomatic Firearms Safety Course is designed for eligible students who need to meet Colorado’s training requirements under SB25-003 for the purchase of specified semiautomatic firearms. This Basic Firearms Safety Course is the 4-hour training option for individuals with qualifying Hunter Education.
Concealed Carry Classes of Denver provides professional, in-person Colorado firearms safety training taught by a Colorado Firearms Safety Program Verified Instructor. The course covers the required safety, legal, storage, handling, and specified semiautomatic firearm topics established for the Colorado Firearms Safety Course Eligibility Card program.
Beginning August 1, 2026, Colorado established new requirements for the purchase and transfer of certain specified semiautomatic firearms. Individuals subject to these requirements must complete the applicable eligibility and firearms safety training process.
The 4-Hour Basic Firearms Safety Course is specifically intended for eligible students with qualifying Hunter Education. Students who do not have qualifying Hunter Education generally need to complete the 12-Hour Extended Firearms Safety Course instead.
This course is intended for eligible Colorado students who:
If you do not have qualifying Hunter Education, please register for our 12-Hour Extended Firearms Safety Course instead.
The Colorado 4-Hour Specified Semiautomatic Firearms Safety Course provides instruction on required firearms safety topics, including:
Students must successfully complete the required course components and achieve the state-required passing score.
SB25-003 created requirements applicable to certain firearms classified under Colorado law as specified semiautomatic firearms. Depending on the firearm and its characteristics, this can include certain semiautomatic rifles, shotguns, and handguns.
If you are planning to purchase a semi-auto rifle or another firearm that may fall within Colorado’s definition of a specified semiautomatic firearm, make sure you understand which training and eligibility requirements apply before purchasing the firearm.
The 4-hour course is the Basic Firearms Safety Course pathway for eligible students with qualifying Hunter Education.
Hunter Education does not replace the required firearms safety course. Instead, qualifying Hunter Education allows an eligible student to complete the shorter 4-hour Basic Firearms Safety Course rather than the 12-hour Extended Firearms Safety Course.
Students should complete the applicable Colorado Firearms Safety Course Eligibility Card process before attending training and verify that they qualify for the 4-hour course.
Please bring a valid government-issued photo ID and all required eligibility and Hunter Education information to class.
