Our friends at Sons of Liberty in South Kingstown, RI are hosting us, so get ready to dive into the world of batik-style egg decorating with our fun and hands-on Pysanky Workshop! Whether you’re a total newbie or just want to refresh your skills, this is the perfect opportunity to learn some traditional techniques and create your own beautiful, colorful egg. Don’t miss out on this awesome creative experience!

You will learn about the history and meaning of pysanky, along with the techniques, tools, and materials used to create these unique works of art using a centuries-old wax-resist process. Bring your curiosity and creativity – we’ll supply the tools, materials, good vibes, and plenty of step-by-step instruction and guidance so you can go home with a wicked cool, one-of-a-kind decorated egg.

Food and Drinks

Tonight is not a BYO-Food event as The Dublin Stack food truck is scheduled to be on-site.

Sons of Liberty is a distillery, and their Tasting Room offers a select menu of small bites in addition to their spirits, served either straight or in cocktails. To support our hosts, we encourage attendees to arrive early and enjoy what SOL has to offer for food and drink.

“Feel free to bring in your own food to enjoy. We do have small bites available for purchase as well as recurring food pop-ups. We only ask that you don’t bring in outside food during our monthly Food Truck Night that can feature up to 5–6 different food trucks.”

Tools & Materials

The registration fee includes the use of all the tools and materials you will need to make your masterpiece. Along with your decorated egg, you will take home a small stand and a cardboard box for transport and display. Links will also be provided if you wish to purchase your own materials and continue the craft at home.

Writing with wax and using the wax-resist method are entirely different from drawing or painting using your typical media. Because many first-timers struggle with applying the wax-resist technique to the design and creation of their decorated eggs, we have put together a short (3:38) YouTube video to help. It is STRONGLY suggested that all those new to the art of batik eggs and pysanky watch the video before attending a workshop. The video isn’t mandatory but it will help you manage your expectations when learning what you can and cannot achieve with a basic wax-resist technique.

Clothing

Because the aniline dyes used in the workshop will permanently color fabrics, and because accidents do happen, we recommend wearing something you wouldn’t mind getting stained. Cloth aprons are provided to help keep you clean, but they will not protect your clothing 100%.

You will also be working with an open flame (a candle), so short sleeves are recommended. Long, loose, or draping sleeves should be avoided.

Glitter Policy

Don’t even think about it. While we may appreciate your enthusiasm and interest in shiny things, please do not bring glitter to our workshops. Glitter is very unwelcome at our venues and makes an absolute mess if spilled in any amount. If you spill it, you will be responsible for cleanup. If you bring glitter to a workshop, you will be asked to remove it from the venue and return it to your vehicle or otherwise secure it away from the workshop area.

Refund Policy

Refunds, minus Eventbrite service fees, are available up to 7 days before the event.

For cancellations made less than 7 days before the event, refunds are not available; however, at our discretion, your registration may be transferred to another available workshop or applied as a credit toward a future Artsy Fartsy workshop.

No-shows are not eligible for a refund.

If we cancel the workshop, attendees will receive a full refund.
