WCMS "American Composers" 3: Quinlan Facey, piano recital

This program features American composers but a broad selection of themes. Percy Grainger was born in Australia but moved to the United States and ultimately became an American citizen, and is credited with reviving interest in British folk music. Aaron Copland is, of course, a household name here in the United States. Elliot Carter is internationally recognized as one of the most influential American voices in classical music, and a leading figure of modernism in the 20th and 21st centuries. He was hailed as as “one of America’s most distinguished creative artists in any field” by his friend Aaron Copland, and his music is often marked with a sense of wit and humor. To round out the afternoon, you will enjoy Drei Klavierstucke by Franz Schubert.

Pianist Quinlan Facey is currently pursuing his Doctor of Musical Arts degree at Boston University. He is an award-winning artist whose performances have graced stages in the U.S and Europe. Notable performances include Beethoven’s third piano concerto with the New York Concerti Sinfonietta at Carnegie Hall, Mendelssohn’s first piano concerto with the New Texas Symphony, and the United States Winners Tour with the IBLA Grand Prize foundation. He won first prize at the Nashville International Piano Competition, IBLA Grand Prize Most Distinguished musician, first prize at the Bartok-Prokofiev-Kabalevsky competition, and received the prestigious Texas Young Master’s grant. No stranger to chamber music, Quin is a frequent collaborator with the Blue Candlelight Music Series in Dallas, TX. He is the pianist/organist at United Church in Walpole. A passionate music educator, Quinlan teaches piano privately and in his position as graduate teaching assistant at Boston University.
