Kinusaiga - No-Sew Fabric Art

Kinusaiga emerged in Japan during the 1980s, and is inspired by traditional Japanese textile arts. This medium creates its look by wrapping fabric pieces over cut foam shapes and tucking them in, leaving a "quilted" look that requires no sewing!

In this class our instructor Julia will have a pre-cut template set on a foam board for you (choose one of the 4 designs!). She will guide you through choosing, and cutting your fabric, using tools to tuck it in, and wrapping your finished edges in a ribbon to add the final touch. Everything you need to create a work of art will be provided in this class.

If you have a beautiful pile of scrap fabric just waiting for its day in the sun, or a meaningful item that you'd like to include, feel free to bring fabric from home! Thinner fabrics such as cotton or silk work best.

Instructor: Julia Kottarathil; She/Her. Julia has been painting dot mandalas for 5+ years. She got her start in a class just like the one she is teaching now! Julia has been teaching for a few years now, and she loves sharing art with others and spreading joy.
