The walk will begin in Cowiche Canyon East, which is a mostly flat, packed gravel trail. If time allows, we may ascend towards the canyon rim to see what lichen is growing on our native shrubs.
Jack Massie has spent years helping document lichen diversity in Eastern Washington. He will lead our group as we learn about lichen life cycles, growth forms, and relationships. Feel free to bring a lichen ID book or magnifying glass if you have one. CCC will provide hand lenses and some background information.
